Small is beautiful!

A’Bear and Ball Architects LLP have just received planning permission for this small contemporary garden room scheme in Faringdon. Whilst our client could have chosen to build an extension under permitted development rights at the rear of their mid terrace property, they would have been limited on the external materials used. Instead they were keen to engage us to approach this project from a design perspective and promote a more imaginative use of form and materials. The simple timber and zinc clad volume provides the additional living space they require and links the house more successfully with the rear garden. The asymmetrical roof responds sensitively to context respecting the relationship with windows to the adjacent neighbouring properties whilst also offering an interesting open vaulted ceiling internally. With the project due to be constructed this summer, we are hoping this scheme will help set a precedent for higher quality small scale residential extensions in the area!
