A’Bear and Ball Architects LLP wins two Build It Awards

Today it was announced that A’Bear & Ball Architects LLP has won two Build It Awards! We are delighted to have been named the Best Architect or Designer for a Renovation or Extension Project for Chapel House, and our Bolero Gardens project was named the Best Timber Frame Home.

The Build It Awards are the most sought-after honour within the self-build industry. The online awards ceremony on 27 November was a celebration of the best self-build and renovation projects, products and services. If you missed live broadcast of the awards ceremony, you can watch it on YouTube.

Best Architect or Designer for a Renovation or Extension Project

The award for the Best Architect or Designer for a Renovation or Extension Project was decided by a combination of scores from the Build It Awards judges and an online poll. With Chapel House, the Practice scored highly amongst both the judges and public.

Demonstrating a truly unique project, the work included a full refurbishment, extension and alterations of a 19th century Methodist chapel. The spacious extension adds 85m2 of extra space and helps create a great floor plan and new family home. The ultra-modern cedar and metal clad extension creates a clear distinction between the old red brick building and the new contemporary structure.

During the awards ceremony, host Richard Bacon MP commented, “This is a truly breath-taking project that combines a full refurbishment with a stunning extension that’s completely modern and of its time, yet wonderfully sympathetic to the original building.”

We are honoured to have won this award and want to thank everyone who voted for us!

Best Timber Frame Home

A’Bear & Ball Architects also won Build It Award’s Best Timber Frame Home category for Bolero Gardens in Graven Hill. For this project, we provided concept design, design to planning, construction and tender drawings and ‘Principal Designer’ services under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

The timber frame home is a contemporary self-build house that offers a fantastic low energy design and meets Lifetime Home Standards.

Richard Bacon MP commented, “The judges felt this was a compact, modest home with a great floor plan and a lovely mix of external materials completed for a very good build cost. You can see how you’d live here very comfortably.”
