A’Bear and Ball Architects LLP was commissioned to advance a design for a bold contemporary replacement dwelling scheme in rural Oxfordshire. The circa 1800 sqft low energy dwelling is proposed to replace a low quality 1970’s bungalow on an attractive edge of village site.

The house is designed as a series of interlocking flat roofed volumes clad in render and zinc serving different accommodation zones within the dwelling. Key views over open fields to the Faringdon Folly and White Horse Hill have been maintained and used as a ‘design driver’ within the scheme.

The house has also been designed with carefully integrated landscaping which provides an enclosed front entrance courtyard and a rear garden which respects and compliments an existing mature walnut tree.
