A striking contemporary self-build home design
A’Bear & Ball Architects LLP has been working on the design of a new five-bedroom self-build home at Plot 384 in Graven Hill. As Architects and Lead Designer for this project, the Practice obtained planning permission from Cherwell District Council in May 2021.
Graven Hill is the biggest custom and self-build community in the UK. Located in Bicester, Oxfordshire, the development provides self-builders the opportunity to create a unique and high-quality home without the worry, hassle and risk of a planning battle on their hands.
Contemporary design fit for modern living
Plot 384 is located in Phase 1 of the Graven Hill development and sited within one of the ‘Community Street’ character areas. The self-build home will be built with cedar timber cladding, grey render and brick. The contrasting elements of the three storeys will create a striking, contemporary design.
With open-plan living, the home will provide flexible living spaces that embody modern living. The design even uniquely features two terraces and a landing gym on the top floor.
Low energy design creating an energy efficient home
The home will have a timber frame and low energy design. It will be heavily insulated and will take full advantage of solar gain to help heat the building during the winter months.
The building envelope achieves Passivhaus levels of thermal performance and an incorporated mechanical ventilation system to keep the building comfortable and with high levels of air quality.
Growing portfolio of self-build homes
