A’Bear and Ball Architects have undertaken Design Development to Planning to inform Greencore’s Reserved Matters Application for 65 new Climate Positive homes in Launton which has now been approved by Cherwell District Council. This forward-thinking scheme, developed in collaboration with Edge Urban Design is designed to integrate seamlessly with the mature existing landscape, fostering a sustainable, low-carbon living environment for a thriving new community.
Greencore Homes is dedicated to creating housing that prioritises sustainability at every level, reducing both embodied carbon and operational energy use. The homes will be constructed using hemp-filled panels fabricated at Greencore’s factory in Bicester, minimising transportation emissions and ensuring a highly efficient build process. Each house type underwent rigorous testing using the Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP), ensuring optimal energy performance and exceptional comfort for residents. The development will also feature an on-site microgrid, advancing energy self-sufficiency and resilience.
The project places biodiversity and environmental stewardship at its core. Thoughtful planning has ensured the enhancement of local ecosystems, creating habitats and green spaces to support flora and fauna while enriching the lives of residents. This aligns with Greencore’s bold vision of delivering 10,000 Climate Positive homes by 2035, setting a new standard in sustainable living.
Careful attention to orientation and street design optimises solar gain and promotes energy efficiency, while fostering a vibrant sense of place. Community engagement was central to the planning process, incorporating insights from local residents, the Parish Council, and stakeholders to address specific needs and aspirations.
